Makhanlal Chaturvedi had become symbol of Indianness

Programme organised to mark death anniversary of pt Makhanlal Chaturvedi and Mahatma Gandhi in Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication

Bhopal, 30th January, 2017: It is believed that the soul does not have its caste, community and nationality. But, Pt Makhanlal Chaturvedi was given title of 'Ek Bharatiya Atma'. Why was he called 'Bharatiya Atma'? To understand this, it is required to know Indianness. And, if the Idea of India is understood, then Indianness would be clear. Vice-chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication Prof Brij Kishore Kuthiala expressed these views. The university has organised a programme to recall Pt Makhanlal Chaturvedi and Mahatma Gandhi on their death anniversary on January 30. Students also expressed views on Pt Makhanlal Chaturvedi and his journalism in a speech competition. 

Chairing the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof Kuthiala said that to be born in India is not needed to be Indian. There are many persons, who became Indian after arriving here. He said that research is needed on what Makhanlal Chaturvedi wrote in Independent India. In the present era, we should present Makhanlal Chaturvedi's principles of journalism to the world so that the current journalism can be motivated. Before this, students of different departments of the university delivered speech on Pt Makhanlal Chaturvedi and his style of journalism. Vishakha Rajurkar of Communication Research Department bagged the first prize in the contest. Ajay Dubey of Journalism Department won second and Saurabh Kumar of electronic media department secured third prize. Consolation prizes were given to all participants. University Rector Lajpat Ahuja and registrar Deepak Sharma were present. Head of Journalism Department Dr Rakhi Tiwari conducted the programme.

Makhanlal Chaturvedi not only wrote against the British government, but taught lesson to those journalists and editors also who were not following 'Dharma' of the journalism. Also, he taught lesson to readers. - Vishakha Rajurkar

Makhanlal Chaturvedi, in the beginning, worked with revolutionaries and later, worked with Mahatma Gandhi adopting the principle of non-violence. But he did not publish single word against revolutionaries in his newspapers - Saurabh Kumar
